EXPERIENCE

Food & Wine // Senior Editor // Nov. 2014–Present // New York City
Selected as the first member of a hybrid copydesk for one of the country’s premier food magazines. Line edit, copyedit, and proofread all department, recipe, and feature content while assisting with research. ¶ Shepherd the
staff through issue closes, including managing the ship schedule, copy flow, and tasks of freelance copy editors and researchers. Oversaw the close of the magazine’s biggest annual issue, Best New Chefs. ¶ Contribute short write-ups for columns such as Editors’ Top 10 and annual packages like the Holiday Gift Guide. ¶ Designed a digital research-­backup system to replace a paper system. Wrote research best practices and trained staff to use software such as InCopy. ¶ Review iPad issues and online stories using a Drupal CMS to ensure errors weren’t introduced in the Web production process. Rewrite print-­specific language for Web. ¶ Instagram during events such as the annual Best New Chefs party. ¶ Organized and executed the department’s move to a new office. Facilitated a donation of cookbooks to a local charity.

Employed as the first member of a hybrid copydesk that assisted in researching and writing stories for a newly formed group of three monthly design magazines. ¶ Researched, line edited, copyedited, and proofread department and feature stories. ¶ Wrote columns for House Beautiful, including Kitchen Best, Great Finds, and Utility. Wrote iPad copy for the features director. ¶ Reviewed iPad issues to ensure errors were not introduced during the reformatting process.

Managed, line edited, and copyedited all text for the country’s largest alternative weekly. ¶ Wrote cover lines, contents blurbs, and other display type every week. ¶ Copyedited 20 news and food blog posts per day. ¶ Collaborated with freelancers to assign and edit 15 special supplements per year, including the Obies, Pazz & Jop, and Best of NYC issues. ¶ Wrote Best of NYC blurbs. ¶ Overhauled the copy-­flow process and designed a system of tracking sheets to share updates among departments. ¶ Wrote a style guide and best practices for the bloggers. ¶ Hired and managed a team of freelance proofreaders.
